Dear Members and Friends, First Unitarian Universalist Church of Austin is more than a building or place to gather on Sundays; it's a vibrant community of people who care for one another and the larger world around us. From the clear voices of our childrens' choirs, to the big questions we consider in discussion groups, and the warm soup at Wednesday night Meet & Eats, there is delight, meaning, and sustenance to be found within our walls. This year members spoke up and said that they wanted to see our 2010 budget fully funded, with no deficit spending. The board of trustees listened and we have pledged to only approve a fully balanced budget. However, we pledged this on the faith that our friends and members will give generously so that we can approve a budget which fully supports our existing programs. Any extra money raised will go to sprucing up the interior of the church and giving the kitchen some much-needed infrastructure attention. The church derives 80 percent of its annual budget from the tax-deductible contributions of members and friends. How much should you give? While we don't request an exact amount we do ask that you give generously within your means. A pledge of 5 percent of your income is an amount that many of us have chosen. We are in a period of exciting growth and transition and we are glad that you are part of this journey. I thank you for your pledge and look forward to seeing you in church!
